چکیده

T HE prothrombic activity of plasma, as measured by the one-stage method, decreases as plasma ages (x-3) because of deterioration of ‘labile factor’ necessary for the rapid conversion of prothrombin to thrombin by thromboplastin plus calcium. When, however, determinations are made by a modified procedure in which the test plasma is first diluted with pdkombin-free fresh plasma, the aged plasma shows iru;reased prothrombic activity (3). Similar observations have been recorded by others (4-6). From the data presented below it appears that the phenomenon is referable to the evolution during storage of a factor which can accelerate prothrombin conversion. This substance, similar to or identical with a prothrombin conversion accelerator which is elaborated during coagulation (7), can be separated from stored plasma by adsorbing it with BaS04 from which it can be eluted by sodium citrate.

Blood Coagulation Induced by Iranian Saw-Scaled Viper (Echis Carinatus) Venom: Identification, Purification and Characterization of a Prothrombin Activator

Objective(s): Echis carinatus is one of the venomous snakes in Iran. The venom of Iranian Echis carinatus is a rich source of protein with various factors affecting the plasma protein and blood coagulation factor. Some of these proteins exhibit types of enzymatic activities. However, other items are proteins with no enzymatic activity.   Materials and Methods: In order to study the mechanism ...

The coagulation defect in hemophilia with particular reference to the conversion of prothrombin to thrombin and the evolution of the prothrombin conversion accelerator.

taneously increase prothrombin consumption. The latter author used this effect as a basis for assay of the antihemophilic activity of normal plasma. Recently, substances have been described which, arising in blood during its coagulation, accelerate the conversion of prothrombin to thrombin in the presence of thromboplastin plus calcium.3’ Their evolution and physiologic properties help cxplain ...

The Prothrombin Conversion Accelerator of Serum

The conversion of prothrombin to thrombin during normal coagulation proceeds with ever increasing velocity until at the moment of clotting, or shortly thereafter, thrombin evolution is explosive. This phenomenon, referred to as the "autocatalytic" nature of thrombin formation, remains unexplained. It is evident that abnormalities in this reaction may underlie the pathogenesis of certain hemorrh...

Prothrombin consumption, serum prothrombic activity and prothrombin conversion accelerator in hemophilia and thrombocytopenia.

Attention has recently been focused on the consumption of prothrombin during blood coagulation. Studies of the velocity of prothrombin conversion to thrombin have yielded important information concerning the clotting defect in various hemorrhagic disorders. Thrombin evolution is retarded in the coagulation of hemophilic blood (1-5), thrombocytopenic blood (3, 4, 6, 7) and blood exposed to silic...

Deficiency of plasma prothrombin conversion accelerators in the postoperative state with a description of a simple method of assay.

By RICHARD WARREN, M.D. AND JOHN S. BELKO, M.S. A PRACTICAL CLINICAL METHOD for determining the activity in plasma of the accelerators of prothrombin conversion has not been so rapidly forthcoming as have been descriptions of their properties and reactions. Those methods which have been described have employed two general principles. The first. of these is the ability of the unknow’n plasma to ...
